You may have heard these referred to as angled nose, oblique nose, or chisel nose pliers. To keep things simple, we'll refer to them as oblique nose pliers.

Oblique nose pliers offer several distinct advantages over traditional plier designs, especially when working with jump rings and other small components. Their angled jaws improve access, visibility, and ergonomics, making detailed work more comfortable while providing greater control and precision.

 

(#1) When using two flat nose pliers to work with a jump ring, you typically need to position the pliers at 180 degrees from one another to achieve the best grip. For many users, this is an awkward and uncomfortable hand position that can lead to wrist strain. If you adjust your grip to be more comfortable, you often sacrifice control and gripping power, making it more difficult to securely hold and manipulate the jump ring.

When you use oblique nose pliers together with a pair of flat nose pliers, your hands naturally rest in a much more comfortable and ergonomic position.
